'Giddy' is a word that could be used, but as we’re adults here, we will say that we are ‘extremely excited’ at the fact that the next 3 weeks marks the 5th year for the Bermuda Restaurant Weeks.  Hosted by the Bermuda Tourism Authority, the annual event has steadily gathered momentum over the past 5 years and in 2016 there are more participating restaurants than ever.  This fares well for food lovers in Bermuda as the 22 day event provides the opportunity to sample specially prepared, set price, 3 course dinner menus from over 40 of Bermuda’s best restaurants. (Click here to see the list)
For the second year in a row, a number of participating restaurants have gone to great lengths to prepare Bermuda inspired creations.  In 2015, this proved to be a highlight of the event for both diners and chefs alike, and actually took last year's event over the top, helping it to be one of the defining moments in tourism for 2015.

In speaking with BTA Chief Product & Experiences Officer Pat Philip-Fairn, her take on this portion of the event is, “Bermuda authenticity is a signature in almost everything we do and the culinary community has fully embraced the idea.  This year 30 restaurants have taken on our challenge to provide Bermuda-inspired dishes in their Restaurants Weeks menus – that’s six more than last year. This bodes well for the island’s food culture identity, which we can then market against to attract visitors, not unlike what you might see in Jamaica or Italy, New Orleans or Paris.”

For us at @biteofbermuda, our view on Bermuda Restaurant Weeks (or as affectionately known in social media circles as #BermudaRW) is that it is a Win / Win / Win.
  • For visitors to the island during this period, it is a bonus as they can experience creative iterations of dishes that are near and dear to our Bermudian hearts.
  • For the residents, it’s the perfect excuse to try out a different restaurant that you may not normally venture to, and in the end, you become better armed to provide suggestions to visitors later on in the year at the height of the season.
  • For Restaurants, they are featured at a time of the year which was once upon a time deemed a ‘slow period’

As an added bonus, there is a chance for your favourite restaurant to walk away with the People's Choice Award (yet another Win) through online voting.  This happens when you cast your vote online.  Simply visit table.bm where you will see the big red vote button on their homepage. Here is where you click that button to cast your vote for your favorite Bermuda-inspired menu*.

*Please note that the People’s Choice Award is only for those restaurants offering a Bermuda-inspired menu.

Bermuda restaurant Weeks officially takes place from January 14 - February 5th with 45 restaurants offering up special dishes on prix fixe menus at $29, $39 and $49 per person (plus gratuities).

To make reservations you can do so directly with the restaurants or via table.bm
