When friends get together for after work drinks, and the conversation goes on (and on), what tends to happen next is someone says, “we should order dinner”. Sometimes, with more talking than eating planned, the regular appetizer/ dinner/dessert combination can be a bit much, resulting in multiple takeout bags. So on this occasion we were strategic about our dining choices. After an exceptionally long workday, the ladies headed to TEN Café & Bar for a glass of wine and tapas.

It’s kind of hard to believe, but it has been ONE full year since we started our journey as Team Bite of Bermuda, sharing some of the amazing food from eateries around the island. And what a year it has been! To tell a tiny bit of the tale of how we came to be; three food loving friends had some truly enviable times (over some great meals of course) and the more we ate together, the more we wanted to share the Bermuda food story. For more than a year we excitedly went back and forth discussing the premise of biteofbermuda.com and at the end of May 2015 we pressed ‘Post’ for the first time…and haven’t looked back since.
Hola amigos hoy es de 10 de mayo. (Translation, Hello friends, today is May 10th). And that means just a few days ago was Cinco de Mayo, which for many is a great reason to get in touch with their inner Mexican food (and drink) loving selves. And. Well. Who are we to buck tradition and refuse an excuse to sample a little something south of the border, on the eastern end of Front St? Plus as luck and good timing would have it, May 5th also marked the FIRST day that the newly renovated porch at Rosa's would be opening. Win! Win!
Biteofbermuda.com officially launched in May of 2015, and at that time, one of the restaurants certain to be featured was Wahoo’s Bistro & Patio. This was for a multitude of reasons, the main one being that it can be said without question that this eatery is one of the most consistent in Bermuda when it comes to serving up great food. But despite the fact that we have already proclaimed the restaurant as a favourite, it has taken more than six months before we’ve had the opportunity to highlight Wahoo’s. And after the lunch we thoroughly enjoyed there, we are seriously asking each other, “Why has it taken so long?!”
Here in Bermuda, we've been fortunate as we've enjoyed some incredible summer weather well into October, but we all know that at some point, our luck will run out. That means that instead of congregating on a sunny patio to enjoy a weekly happy hour, we'll be looking for indoor spots to enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail (and of course a bite to eat) over the course of the cooler months. As it turns out, one of the most eclectic and engaging spaces on Front Street (if not the whole island) is a step ahead of our impending winter "what to do?" dilemma, with a new event to look forward to on a regular basis: Wednesday Wine Tastings at Urban Cottage.
On the streets of Hamilton and the outskirts of town, you are hard pressed to miss a sign of Buzz Restaurant. With 5 outlets in walking distance of the city centre, and more island-wide, the franchise has made its mark within the Bermuda take-out marketplace. And with the success of the Buzz formula, in 2014, the owners decided to introduce diners to Devil’s Isle Café, the older, more sophisticated sibling to Buzz. Based on the crowds that have been frequenting the Burnaby Street, scene-stealing location since its launch, the classy family member has been welcomed with open arms.
It's that time of year again. The time where much of the planet (at least, the top half) starts gearing up for cooler temperatures. Where bikinis give way to boots and sweaters, pumpkin starts showing up as a main ingredient in everything from coffee to dessert, and that crazy co-worker starts sending weekly email updates that say things like "91 DAYS 'TIL CHRISTMAS!!" with an irritating picture of an elf or something. Yeah, you know who you are.
But wait. We live in Bermuda. And among the many, many (many) benefits of calling our tiny isle home is the fact that our summer lasts just a little bit longer. We're still on the beach when we first start hearing snow reports from 'less-lucky' friends and relatives in cold and distant lands (oh hello, Canada), and for those of us who are food inclined (and if you're not...you really may not enjoy our website), that means you have more time to high-tail it out to St. George's for a patio lunch or dinner at a new favourite of ours, The Beach House at Blackbeard's. |
