Hola amigos hoy es de 10 de mayo. (Translation, Hello friends, today is May 10th). And that means just a few days ago was Cinco de Mayo, which for many is a great reason to get in touch with their inner Mexican food (and drink) loving selves. And. Well. Who are we to buck tradition and refuse an excuse to sample a little something south of the border, on the eastern end of Front St? Plus as luck and good timing would have it, May 5th also marked the FIRST day that the newly renovated porch at Rosa's would be opening. Win! Win!

As odd as it may seem, when living in Bermuda it can still be pretty easy to get caught up in the daily hustle and bustle of work, home, family and such (you know, 'responsibilities'). Often, you can lose sight of the fact that we call paradise 'home' and that there is much to be enjoyed with such a privilege. So while weekends may be filled with grocery shopping, laundry, or errands around town, it is still important to pause for a few minutes and find that place where you can sit back, inhale that Bermudaful air, take in stunning vistas and (of course) have a great meal. One such place is Marcus’ Bermuda at the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club.
Lunch is Served!
That’s right! As of September 8th, Marcus' Bermuda at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club is now serving lunch. And to commemorate the occasion, Chef Marcus Samuelsson himself graced Bermuda with his presence and hosted a cooking demonstration in the Princess Victoria Room on Friday afternoon, featuring a couple of the items from the lunch menu. If you think this was an event that we'd possibly have missed...think again. It is often said that the success of a business comes down to location, location, location. In the case of Breezes Restaurant at Cambridge Beaches...
WHAT A LOCATION!!!! If someone were to claim that the old Bermuda classic “Bermuda is Another World” was written while sitting at Breezes (if not for the fact that the song was written a more than half a century ago), it would be totally believable. Colossal. Rosa’s threw their hat into the Bermuda’s Best Fish Sandwich Competition ring and their entry can simply be described as COLOSSAL.
Specially made for the competition, we had a bit of a preview as it was included in the menu line up at a little celebration at Rosas the previous week. Though a fish sandwich wasn't in the plan, we're not ones to resist an opportunity to sample one that is vying for the title of “Best in Bermuda”, And the truth is, there was some ahem... strong encouragement to try it. Okey dokey. Raisin bread toast it is. Since 1932, the Swizzle Inn has been welcoming guests (first-timers and repeat visitors) with fresh-made food and their infamous jugs of Rum Swizzle. For anyone not in the know, Swizzle is a cocktail made from a combination of rum and fruit juices and is notorious for going down easy, and leaving you...happy. The perfect "welcome back/home", if you will. There are many variations on the Island - everyone has their own take - but the most famous of the Swizzles is, without a doubt, found at the Swizzle Inn. More on the Swizzle later.
