Colossal. Rosa’s threw their hat into the Bermuda’s Best Fish Sandwich Competition ring and their entry can simply be described as COLOSSAL. Specially made for the competition, we had a bit of a preview as it was included in the menu line up at a little celebration at Rosas the previous week. Though a fish sandwich wasn't in the plan, we're not ones to resist an opportunity to sample one that is vying for the title of “Best in Bermuda”, And the truth is, there was some ahem... strong encouragement to try it. Okey dokey. Raisin bread toast it is. ![]() Again...the word is 'Colossal'; Rosas sticks to their Tex-Mex script with their offering, when out comes the sandwich on thick-sliced, house-made, raisin bread reminiscent of 'Texas Toast'. Between, were layers of lettuce, tomato, creamy coleslaw, cheddar cheese and the 'belle of the ball', a mixture of rockfish and snapper. With all of that going on, they still threw in some fries for good measure. The fish, fried perfectly crisp, in a coating that is full of flavour and highlighted with a “kick” from peppers mixed into the batter. This spicy kick is just enough to put a smile on a hot sauce lover’s face yet mild enough for a 'pepper-avoider' to enjoy their sandwich. (as much as we love the spice... one of us fits this description - #foodrules) Slathered with slaw on one side, which balances the heat, and cheddar with tartar on the other, every bite says yuuuuummmmmm..... In the category of “traditional” local fish sandwich, Rosa’s is a strong contender – if you’re a give-me-all-the-trimmings type. As tasty as the bread was, it came across just a tad bit too thick – definitely not for the crossfit/hold-the-carbs diners.
Rosa's has been selling their fish sandwich to the masses since the competition has started and they don't want you to miss out. Stop in and have it with a Peach Margarita (one of our favorites) or collect it for take out. Either way, make sure to log on to BermudaFoodie.com to place your vote before end of day, Friday August 14th.
