And the winners are…Bermuda food lovers!!! However in this case, there could only be one winning chef, and on February 19th, the Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA] presented its 2016 Restaurant Weeks People’s Choice Award to Muse’s Executive Chef Enworth Davis for his Bermuda Inspired offering. He edged out 2016 runners up, Executive Chef Chad Mitchell of Red who was also in the running last year, and Head Chef Zaid Khan of Pickled Onion (two talented chefs in their own right who also put up stellar dishes that won each of their price categories.) Just to recap, the 5th annual Bermuda Tourism Authority Bermuda Restaurant Weeks took place from January 14th to February 5th and we couldn’t have enjoyed it more...seriously, what better way is there to get over the post holiday blues than with a great meal (even better a few great meals) With the largest number of restaurants participating to date, narrowing it down to where we would visit was always a struggle. But with Bermuda inspired fare to be sampled, we stepped up to the task at hand for some marathon dining. Looking back at our Muse experience, it was evident Chef Enworth put a lot of thought in the meal from beginning to end. It was more than ‘elevated’ traditional Bermuda dishes, but a list of Bermudian ingredients available around the island and until experiencing the menu, they have probably never been considered at restaurants; Onion and Nasturtium Soup, Wild Fennel on the rockfish dish, Gold Seal fermented loquats and Suriname cherries with the dessert to name a few. If you’ve been following the exploits of team #biteofbermuda on Instagram, (and you should be) you would have had a bit of a play-by-play of the dining action and would understand this sentiment. Or you can check it all out via the biteofbermuda Pinterest Board. Reflecting on the overall experience of the few (‘several’) Bermuda Restaurant Weeks offerings we sampled, we’re kind of left looking forward to the next BTA food related event. And by the way...up next, the City Food Festival.
