We LOVE a fish sandwich, so we would be crazy not to jump onboard the Bermuda's Best Fish Sandwich competition, hosted by our friends over at BermudaFoodie.com and the Bermuda Tourism Authority. The competition, which runs until August 14th, has 40 (!!) restaurants onboard, so we thought it would only be right to do our part and sample some of the offerings. We had our favourites before, but we just might have some new ones now! We'll be devoting this week to our experiences, which started last week with our first contender: RED Steakhouse & Bar. RED, typically a favourite for happy hour and generally known for great food and atmosphere, spoiled us for choice by offering two fish sandwiches: their Rock Fish Sandwich from the regular lunch menu (served with house coleslaw, lemon dill and caper tartar sauce), and a special sandwich created specifically for the competition. Two of us...two sandwich options...we opted to order both and share. Their Rock Fish Sandwich from the regular menu was very tasty. The fish had a classic batter, crispy and well matched to the creamy coleslaw and citrusy sauce. We thought it might have been even better on a less intense bun (the bun was quite thick and doughy, which we typically love, but found to be a bit much for the contents), but we ate every bite and would recommend it for a hungry lunch guest. And then we tried the special Rockfish Escovitch sandwich, created for the competition, and basically the table went silent as we took it in. We're not sure if it was the crispy coating on the fish or the tangy pickled veggies, but this sandwich had us at hello. It is truly something special, and is definitely worth a visit to give it a try! Be sure to go this week, because you have until Friday to submit your vote on BermudaFoodie.com for Bermuda's Best Fish Sandwich!
Stay tuned as we share other fish sandwich delights over the coming days. More Bermuda's Best Fish Sandwich Coverage Muse SkyBar and Restaurant
