If you take a scroll through the pages showing our Best Bermuda Fish Sandwich Competition experiences, you’ll see no two sandwiches look alike. This brings us to this latest dining adventure because it’s safe to say that there is not another sandwich like the one that you can get from the Seaside Grill. On a side note, we thought we were sandwiched out and didn’t have anything else to add but the feeling was we couldn’t let the competition go much further without sampling the Seaside offering. Here’s why. First of all, Seaside is this low-key-take-out spot on North Shore Road that hundreds of commuters pass by daily in their travels from the east to Hamilton and back without a thought. One thing those road warriors will notice (especially after reading this) is that as long as Seaside is open, there are cars, bikes and a person or two sitting outside patiently waiting for their order, because whatever they are waiting for, is well worth the wait (we know better…we call ahead).
What you get is toasted, thick-sliced raisin bread, paired with stacked slices of battered fried wahoo, a mildly flavoured tartar sauce and of course…hot sauce. The sweet bites of the occasional raisin in the bread balance out the tartness of the tartar sauce. The thickness of the bread is the perfect vessel for the multiple layers of wahoo; no soggy bread, no lost fish. The fish is fried just to the point where the batter is a delicious looking and tasting golden hue while the fish on the inside has a firm yet juicy texture (no dried out wahoo ‘round here). And the hot sauce, well, by now you know that we’re spicy like that! Once again, a case of FSH… ‘Fish Sandwich Happiness’. Note: there are a bunch of you who are experiencing the same thing because the awesome (read: cutie) server said they only had wahoo left as they usually have options for fish, and they’ve had to double up on their bread orders because EVERYBODY is ordering sandwiches, even their regular ‘fish dinner’ folks. It’s official. You are running out of time as voting ends tonight, August 14th! To cast your vote, hop over to our friends at www.bermudafoodie.com to show your favourite some love.
